JG Speedfit goes skiing

Not only is John Guest a market leader in push-fit fittings and a UK manufacturer for nearly 50 years, but we can now add extreme sports to our never ending list of unique things that make us the reputable company that we are! JG has been involved with sponsoring an amount of JG pipes and fittings to the ‘Eagle Ski Club’ to assist in their September 2010 ski-touring expedition to the Chilean Andes. The plastic pipes and fittings were put together to create a frame that pulled a ski pulk behind the skier. The frame supported the pulk and prevented it from ‘overtaking’ the skier when in a downhill descent.

Speedfit had done itself justice when group member, Lee Johnson, explained that they had never used the parts before but put them together with ease and secured with wiring. This was until Lee suggested that a speedfit pipe insert could be utilized to strengthen and replace the wiring. The group has been using JG products for this purpose for the past 5 years and no parts have been replaced unless broken due to unfortunate incidents such as crashing! The expeditions usually last between 3-4 weeks at a time, making the parts very efficient! The pipes and fittings have remained reliable even in adverse weather conditions and temperatures as low as -40 degrees!

It’s safe to say our products have certainly traveled. Not only is Speedfit distributed world wide but The Eagle Ski club has used Speedfit parts for expeditions in Chile, Antarctica, Greenland, Canada and Russia to name a few. Lee Johnson states he was very pleased with John Guest’s sponsorship and ‘I didn’t expect to receive a yes in response but I found the company very approachable.’ Should you be planning your own ski expedition or have any other interesting ways of using JG Speedfit, we would love to hear from you.
